Steward of the Regional Power System
ISO New England's state-of-the-art regional control room is the nerve center of the region's 32,000 megawatt (MW) power grid. Here highly trained system operators:
- Forecast the region's daily electricity needs
- Coordinate thousands of electricity transactions every hour between buyers and sellers
- Schedule electricity generation and transmission
- Keep electricity supply and demand in perfect balance every minute of the day, every day of the year
These activities require vast amounts of technical expertise and computing infrastructure, and close communication with other ISO departments, power plant and transmission companies, local distribution companies, state and local officials, and many other energy stakeholders.
