Provide independent, objective assurance, and consulting services designed to add value and improve ISO-NE business operations, and, where appropriate, selected Participant and vendor activities. This is accomplished through completion of the annual Internal Audit Risk Assessment and development of the 15 Month Audit Plan in a manner that reflects effective utilization of audit resources in high risk areas, managing execution of the Audit Plan in a manner that allows adaptability to changing priorities and conditions, developing and maintaining ISO-NE Internal Audit Department strategies, policies, procedures and practices in accordance with professional internal auditing standards and practices and developing and maintaining a professional audit staff with significant auditing, business and technical knowledge and experience.
Direct the development of audit strategies, completion of the annual Internal Audit Risk Assessment and development of the 15 Month Audit Plan, ensuring that all ISO-NE organizational areas, significant organizational or process changes, business and technical initiatives, applicable governing documents, legislative or regulatory issues and key areas of risk are considered. Solicit input from ISO-NE senior and middle management and subject matter experts as well as the NEPOOL Audit Management Sub-committee and the SOC 1 and Financial Statements Audit teams. Solicit input and coordinate activities with other oversight teams including the Enterprise Risk Management Group, the Reliability and Operations Compliance Group, the CIP & Systems Compliance Operations Group, the Market Monitoring Group and the Cyber Security Group. Ensure that Audit and Finance Committee areas of interest are covered.
Provide initial direction on projects as necessary, review and approve audit scope, audit engagement memos, draft and final audit reports, audit work papers, review memos and various other deliverables, and perform problem resolution as issues are escalated.
Provide direction and active involvement, as necessary, for external reviews such as the SSAE 18 SOC 1 engagement and the Financial Statements Audit. Coordinate communications and scheduling between ISO-NE auditees and external parties. Actively direct and or participate in efforts to resolve issues that are identified, with particular focus on potential control or compliance test exceptions that are identified.
Serve as Project Manager to plan and perform audits in areas of technical expertise, as time allows.
Direct, coordinate, and contribute to the development of several communications (typically, four major presentations annually) for the Audit and Finance Committee. Make succinct, clear verbal presentations focused on the highlights of significant issues, trends regarding internal controls and/or compliance, audit projects, audit issue tracking, audit staffing, practices in internal auditing, etc. leaving the details to the content of the presentation materials.
Monitor progress on Audit Plan on at least a quarterly basis to ensure that significant issues are communicated on a timely basis to the Audit and Finance Committee and CEO, senior and middle management, as appropriate.
Direct/manage/perform IAD administrative responsibilities to include, but not limited to: providing ongoing formal and informal feedback to staff, as appropriate, including interim and annual performance evaluations and development plans; developing and managing IAD budgets and forecasts and overseeing the effective selection and management of supplementary resources to IAD staff including student interns and outside consultants.
