Last fall, Microsoft announced a dramatic change in how they will support the Internet Explorer (IE) browser: starting January 2016 they will support only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system. For the Windows 7 operating system, this means IE version 11 only. This poses some significant challenges to how the ISO supports many of the SMD applications because Microsoft allows only one version of Internet Explorer installed on Windows (in other words, you can't have IE version 8 and 11 on your PC).
The ISO has been researching how we can adjust the support of our varied SMD applications with the least amount of inconvenience to market participants. Over the course of 2015, we will be attempting to modify many of the SMD applications to support both IE11 and the currently supported IE8 (and IE9 in cases where it is presently supported as noted in the web browser support for SMD applications policy). For those that cannot be modified in this manner, we will continue to support IE 8 (and IE9 if currently supported) until January 2016 and then only IE11 after that. Details of the migration dates and when the outages will occur will be delivered through our customary notification mechanisms.
As such, ISO New England will only support IE 11 for SMD applications beginning January 2016. While other browsers may be used and work appropriately for some applications, we recommend that you update your browser to IE11 by January 2016.
