The current electricity capacity status in New England is NORMAL. Conditions are considered normal when there is an ample supply of electricity to meet the region's expected demand.
ISO New England has declared a POWER CAUTION for today. There is no need for public action. This notice is an advisory to NEPOOL wholesale market participants.
The POWER CAUTION has been declared because available capacity resources are insufficient to meet anticipated demand plus operating reserve reqruirements, and ISO New England has implemented OPERATING PROCEDURE NO. 4, Action During A Capacity Deficiency. OP 4 allows system operators to take a variety of actions to meet expected peak demand and maximize system operating reserves.
We will keep you advised of any significant changes in the status of the bulk power system and notify you when the POWER CAUTION is cancelled.
A POWER WATCH has been declared for today. A high demand for electricity in the region has created the need to conserve electricity. The POWER WATCH is expected to remain in effect throughout the day.
Customers can help by minimizing the use of air conditioners, turning off unnecessary lights and electrical appliances and doing laundry in the late evening or early morning hours. Market Rule 1, Appendix H - Cold Weather Event Operations (MR 1, Appendix H), Cold Weather Watch has been declared by ISO New England.
The purpose of MR 1, Appendix H, is to notify participants in the wholesale electricity market and government regulators, including both utility and air regulators, when the combination of forecasted cold weather conditions and anticipated capacity outlook could impact reliable operation of New England's bulk power system. Implementation of MR 1, Appendix H, signals to the marketplace that additional resources may be needed to meet demand during extreme cold weather conditions.
A Cold Weather Watch is not a request for conservation. Please refer to Market Rule 1, Appendix H - Cold Weather Event Operations, for more information.
