The ISO has developed and proposed a new clustering methodology that would allow two or more Interconnection Requests to be analyzed in the same System Impact Study and to share costs for certain interconnection-related transmission upgrades. The proposed methodology would be used only where specific triggering conditions have been met. The ISO will first implement clustering to address the persistent backlog of Interconnection Requests experienced in Northern and Western Maine using the findings of the Maine Resource Integration Study.
The Interconnection Process Clustering project is just one of several key projects at the ISO, which continuously undertakes a variety of short-term and long-term projects to enhance the region’s competitive wholesale electricity markets, access to interconnection and transmission services, and ensure reliable operation of the power grid.
