ISO New England is updating the reporting of its generation resource mix with a new classification of fuel categories. Effective May 14, 2026, most electric storage facilities (e.g., batteries) will be reported as a standalone fuel category, labeled as “Batteries.” Previously, these resources were included in the “Other” category. Please note that Pumped Storage will continue to be categorized under the “Hydro” category.
Given the increasing number of electric storage facilities in the New England region, this change provides additional detail about the resource mix. The update will be reflected across the various related reports and charts:
Please note that while the format of the reports, web services, and data structures will not change, participants will begin seeing these new values in the existing fields starting May 14. The change is prospective and will only affect the data as reported starting on May 14.
